Chase away the end of winter blues with an evening of Mexican music, song and dance with multi-talented performer Veronica Robles and members of her Mariachi group. The lively singing and dancing includes plenty of audience participation. The performance is presented by the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire as part of Veronica’s week-long residency in North Country Schools celebrating the culture and history of Mexico and Latin-America. Veronica is considered the most authentic representative of Mexican music and culture in New England, and has devoted her career to promoting diversity and teaching about Mexican and Latin-American culture through dance and music. As a singer Veronica is well known as La Mera, Mera (The Real One). She has had her own Mariachi group based in Boston since 2004, has released five albums, and has performed in venues including The Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Her repertoire includes traditional Mexican music, her original songs, and other Latin American melodies. Veronica has also produced, sung for, and hosted TV programs in Mexico and, in the U.S, for major Spanish TV networks such as Azteca, Televisa, Telemundo, Univisión and WGBH. Currently Veronica hosts and co-produces her own TV show, Orale con Veronica, on Telemundo Boston. Read more at www.veronicarobles.com During Veronica’s week-long North Country residency -- March 15-19 -- she will present school assemblies and workshops, public performances, and dance workshops, providing students and community members with the opportunity to experience Mexican culture through learning traditional dance, music, Spanish and Nahuatl language and wearing traditional outfits. For more information on this and other programs, for updates on weather-related delays or cancellations, and for a complete schedule of Veronica’s public programs, visit www.aannh.org or call 837-2275. Funding for the residency is provided in part by the New England Foundation for the Arts through the NEA Regional Touring Program, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the state arts agencies of New England, including the NH State Council on the Arts, and by the New Hampshire Electric Co-op Foundation. The Arts Alliance is a nonprofit network dedicated to promoting, supporting, and sustaining culture and the arts throughout northern New Hampshire.
